How to Put Eye Drops in Your Cat’s Eye Step by Step

Cats are most mischievous furry animals making fuss all the time. However, their cuteness can easily override their naughtiness when pet owners seek them. Pet owners feel happy seeing the beautiful twinkles in their cat’s eye. Nevertheless, when the shine is dimmed due to some infection and eye problem, pet parents need to be concerned about this.
When a cat has an eye problem, pet owners job gets double as they have to take proper eye care for cat. To cure eye infection, they have to apply eye ointment or drops, which seem to be one of the most unmanageable things to do.

To help pet parents easily treat their fussy kitty with a dropper, just follow the following steps, which will surely help you treat your feline friend with eye drops.

Step 1 to follow: Things you need
You will need a towel.
Eye drops or ointment, which has to be applied.

Step 2 to follow: Put your cat in a correct position
Before putting drops, it is crucial that your kitty is positioned securely so that she may not injure herself. Position your cat on the table or in your lap and without hurting her drape your arm across her body to make her steady and remain calm.
Take the towel and wrap her in to prevent her from scratching. To avoid her from moving backwards, it is better that you keep your body or a wall behind your cat.
Slowly cradle her head with one hand, holding firmly and gently, and tilt her face upwards.

Step 3 to follow: Correct eye drop applying technique
While you are tilting your cat’s head up, hold her ear flaps back with the help of other hand. Now with the hand you are holding her head from under the jaw, just use the thump to push up towards the eye. This helps to create a little pouch in the lower eyelid.
Being careful of not touching your kitty’s eye, properly place the tip of the applicator just above the bottom lid. Then squeeze drops into the eyes quickly and gently. Squeeze only the amount, which is required or recommended by your vet. Your cat will blink; this will distribute the drops over the eye.

If you have to medicate the other eye also, follow the same procedure. After application, do not allow your pet to run immediately. Hold her for some time, because being realized your pet will start scratching the eyes, this may disturb the liquid and it may drip out. Means you need to apply again. Sometimes, this can even hurt her.

Step 4 to follow: Reward them with treats
Certainly, like small kids, your kitty will not admire having those drops in her eyes. So caress her throughout the treatment and reward her at the end with a treat. With this, your kitty will be less fussy taking it positively when you are getting ready with eye drops to administer her next time.

Step 5 to follow: Have lots of patience
In the first go only don’t think that you will be successful. For the first few tries, it will not go so smoothly. It can be a tricky and tedious experience for you and for your cat. It would be difficult to hold your kitty and handle the dropper at once. You can even take help of other pair of hands for the first few treatments. Slowly becoming acquainted with the soothing procedure followed by a treat, your cat will not be fussy later on.

Nevertheless, remember never try to stop the medication in between if you find it difficult to put eye drops in your furry pal. You need to have patience and with some sittings, your cat will definitely be less finicky.

Moreover, if you are finding it difficult to administer drops, you can consult your vet and take his help. He will help you with the treatment and you can easily learn the technique. Pet owners need to be always careful while applying the ointment or drops, as eyes are very delicate.

Important tip: please wash your hands before applying ointment or eye drops to your lovable companion to avoid contamination and infection.
