Why Your Pet Needs A Customize First Aid Kit

Pets need medication and care just as we do. In fact, they need more of first aid as their agility and playful nature makes them susceptible to physical wear and tear. When you modify the standard kit by adding vet suggested things for your pet or add stuff that your pet prefers, it becomes your very own, customized pet first aid kit with your personal touch in it.

Basic stuff in a pet first aid kit:

Your pet’s first aid kit can include two kinds of things - stuff for medical purpose and items for grooming purpose. Pet parents need to be ready with their pet first aid kit whether they are travelling with your pet or not.

Medical stuff: This section must include medicines and equipments for the primary care of minor injuries, wound care, general illness, breathing sickness and other ad-hoc sicknesses. Bandages, antiseptic lotion, eye and ear-cleansing solution, tweezers, scissors, disposable gloves, ophthalmic ointment, various sized syringes, cotton balls, antibiotic ointment, cold packs, hot packs etc. are the very basic stuff in any pet first aid kit. These are the basic things but you can add or delete objects as per your pet’s behavior and nature.

If your pet is super active and is prone to skin-cuts and lesions then skin cleansers and ointments are necessary in your pet kit. If he has joint related problems then you cannot miss adding hot packs and cold packs. In addition, nutritional powders and treatments should be an inevitable part of your pet kit. Moreover, your regular treatments including flea and tick medications, heartwormers, de-wormers etc. should be a part of the kit.

Grooming stuff: Grooming is also an important part of routine pet care. Your pet kit must include all these things if you are travelling. Nail clippers, shampoos, nail-filers, comb, towels, grease-cutting dish soap, and other items that increase your cutie’s appeal should also be added in the kit.

Why customize pet first aid kits?

  • To give a personal touch to the medical and grooming needs of your pet.
  • To make a kit specifically designed for your pet’s needs. You can add or discard certain things from the standard pet first aid kit.
Tips for a full proof pet first aid kit:

  • Make sure the medicines in your pet kit have not expired. Keep an eye on this aspect as otherwise you will be in a fix.
  • Again, avoid any medication that does not suit your sensitive pet.
  • Carry disinfectant, antiseptic, saline, flea and tick mediation and cleansing solution by default.
  • Extra rehydrating solutions must be carried during long trips.
  • Keep phone numbers of veterinary clinic, veterinarians, poison control center, muzzle etc. You can also add stuff that discourages licking in pets.
In a nutshell, it is always a good idea to personalize your pet’s first aid kit. It must have equipments suits for your four-legged friend. Whether you are travelling with your pets or not, this kit should be made handy to get on with the primary care of your pet. Thus, keeping a personalized kit makes pet parenting easy and well organized.
