Dog Yoga - Latest Fad amongst Dog Owners

It may sound strange but doga or dog yoga has been part of our culture since ages and all the poses that you see in yoga are merely an imitation of our furry friends. So, whenever you plan to do yoga follow the suit of your pooch and you will definitely learn a new pose for healthy wellbeing. But about your tyke? Why should he miss the fun?

Dog Yoga - Latest Fad amongst Dog Owners

The next time you open your yoga mat and see your furry friend looking at you with eyes that say "I want to join you in the activity" and wags his tail; allow him in. It will excite your dog and he will thank you in his doggie language "My owner wants to finally play with me and spend some quality time." Also train him in such a way that whenever you are on the floor, he may join you while when you are standing and doing the asana he needs to stay in the bed.

Follow the tips given below before commencing the doga journey:

  • Emulate the animals by learning how they stretch themselves and live in the present moment (This is the key to doga)
  • Make sure that you do not accidentally step on your pooch’s paws while doing active yoga. (The safety of your tyke is of paramount importance)
  • Take Doga lightly (It is a great way to bond with your four-legged friend)
Apart from this, follow a few more things:

Inquire from your veterinarian about the asana that your doggie can do

Your veterinarian is the best person to tell you about the asana that your pooch can easily do without inflicting any physical discomfort. We, human beings know when to stop doing a particular asana but dogs cannot tell us anything, hence; it is better to practice patience and do asana that they can do easily.

Never force your pooch into Doga

Dog owners have the habit of making their tyke follow instruction by giving him treats or healthy dog supplies. But Doga is one such activity which should not be forced.

Note: This is not a training session.

Even if your tyke wants to roam around while doing yoga it is fine. The ultimate goal of Doga is to ensure that your pooch absorbs your tranquil state and not be stressed during the experience.

Calming the nerves of your doggie is the ultimate objective of Doga

Even if your doggie does not get involved in any yoga asana and learns to stay calm the purpose of Doga is served. You can successfully calm your tyke by influencing him when you regulate your breathing pattern. It will not only bring peace of mind for your doggie but will also calm your nerves.

The key to successful Doga session is patience

Doga does not happen overnight. It takes lots of patience from dog owners and the pooch. A time frame of 3 to 6 months is necessary for the dog to achieve the tranquil state. Be happy with the little strides taken by your four legged friend. Give space to him and with time he will be a pro in Doga.

Once you follow these tips, it will not only assist you in developing a stress-free bond with your tyke, but also build your trust in dogs. Your hyperactive dog will also mellow down with the influence of Doga. Is there any better way of achieving nirvana than this?
